Mitchell Alexander 6 (7) 8. Eric Mason 29 (10) 9. Gary Moyer 8m (3) 10. Boyd Burnham 54 (11) 11. Brett Mather 12 (9)

Mather dropped out early. Burnham was running the 54 as Jamie Farrell wants to keep his rookie status for next year. The Thorson's put on an exhibition racing side by side for the majority of the race.

Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. John Anderson 7a (1*) 2. Randy Martin 14 (5*) 3. Jake Peters 57x (4*) 4. Tim Deaver 34 (3) 5. Jesse Giannetto D1 (9*) 6. Mike Houseman Y5 (10) 7. Terry Alexander 77 (6) 8. Stacey Alexander 126 (7) 9. Roger Short 3E (2) 10. Chris Martinez 7m (8) DNS - Sye Anderson 37

S. Anderson scratched before the night could begin. Martinez exited with a smoking motor on lap three bringing out a caution for fluid on the track. J. Anderson led flag to flag, but Martin shot around Deaver and Peters on the lap three restart to capture second. Giannetto's run from the last row got him in the A.

Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Ed Ergenbright 11 (2*) 2. Rod Edwards 22 (4*) 3. Ryan Anderson 71R (5*) 4. Jerry Crabb 12x (7*) 5. Tom Lenz 8L (3) 6. Mike Waddell 2 (1) 7. Dave Middleswart 4 (9) 8. Mark Detrick 12D (8) 9. Gary Dean 44 (10) 10. Doran Doty 99x (6)

Ergenbright led flag to flag. Doty spun bringing out a yellow on lap three. He went pitside. R. Anderson was coming hard at the end as was Crabb.

Heat four (started, *qualfied for feature): 1. Dave Hesmer 1 (1*) 2. John Kearney 86 (4*) 3. Josh Higday 24 (2*) 4. Tim St. Arnold 7s (10*) 5. Larry Ball Jr. 5J (5) 6. Rod Richards 5 (9) 7. Rodney Turner 69 (8) 8. Tony Norem B1st (7) 9. Jim Alexander Jr. 14A (3) 10. Alan Zoutte 33 (6)

Hesmer won this single file affair. Norem suffered serious motor problems and lost two spots on the last two laps and limped home in eighth. St. Arnold put on a show, passing six cars.

C feature (started): 1. Doty (9) 2. Detrick (1) / 3. Norem (2) 4. Moyer (4) 5. Zoutte (8) 6. J. Alexander (6) 7. Short (5) 8. Burnham (7) 9. Dean (3) DNS - Martinez, Mather

Norem had this one taken care of , until his engine started going away with two to go. He limped and almost held off Detrick, but it was not to be. Doty came from last to first.

B feature (started): 1. Golik (5) 2. Deaver (1) 3. Ball (7) 4. Turner (10) / 5. Wilson (4) 6. Lenz (6) 7. Doty (15) 8. Richards (3) 9. Mason (12) 10. Middleswart (9) 11. T. Alexander (13) 12. M. Alexander (11) 13. Detrick (16) 14. Waddell (8) 15. Houseman (2) DNS - S. Alexander

Houseman led and was going through lapped traffic, when he hit the right rear of Detrick sending him upside down and hard into the catch fence, which needed repair afterwards. Houseman broke his shoulder in the incident. Golik moved up through the field to take the lead. Turner used the restart to get around Lenz and Wilson for the final transfer spot.

A feature (started): 1. Hesmer (1) 2. St. Arnold (8) 3. Kearney (7) 4. Martin (5) 5. R. Anderson (11) 6. J. Anderson (3) 7. Beaver (9) 8. Higday (15) 9. Golik (17) 10. Peters (12) 11. T. Thorson (6) 12. Edwards (2) 13. Crabb (13) 14. Giannetto (14) 15. Turner (20) 16. Ball (19) 17. C. Thorson (10) 18. Deaver (18) 19. Heimbaugh (16) 20. Ergenbright (4)

Hesmer left the rest in the dust, while Kearney, St. Arnold and Martin were drifting forward. Hesmer's half lap lead was eliminated when Ergenbright stopped with rear end problems on lap 15 of 20. It mattered not though, as Hesmer surged forward again. St. Arnold used the restart to his advantage, blowing by Kearney for second. Season champ Martin settled for fourth. Higday moved up nine spots, good for the hard-charger.

Dash for Cash (started): 1. Ball (2) 2. Norem (4) 3. Kearney (6) 4. Martin (5) 5. Beaver (1) 6. T. Thorson (3)

Thorson bowed out on lap three, while Ball led the distance for the $500 prize. Norem changed a motor after the C main, and looked strong in second. This was Ball's last 360 race for awhile as he is moving up to the 410s and will be running several IRA shows in September, and the 410 class next year at Knoxville.

August 25, 2001
Knoxville Raceway, Knoxville, IA

Heat one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Dave Hesmer 1 (5*) 2. Frankie Heimbaugh 6x (2*) 3. Ed Ergenbright 11 (1*) 4. Tim Deaver 34 (4*) 5. Larry Ball Jr. 5J (6) 6. Tom Lenz 8L (3) 7. Alan Zoutte 33 (8) 8. Greg Lance 1x (11) 9. Mike Waddell 2 (7) 10. David Pyatt TV29 (10) 11. Steve Breazeale 57 (9)

Hesmer was very strong and left the rest behind after getting by a slowing Ergenbright. Pyatt exited on lap three, one lap after Breazeale did the same.

Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. John Kearney 86 (1*) 2. Randy Martin 14 (4*) 3. Ryan Anderson 71R (3*) 4. Terry Alexander 77 (2*) 5. Mike Houseman Y5 (5) 6. Terry Thorson 9 (8) 7. Doran Doty 99x (6) 8. Brett Golik 5G (9) 9. Mitchell Alexander 6 (7) 10. Terry Hinck 21h (10) 11. Roger Short 3E (11)

Short did a 360 and kept it going on lap one. Kearney got out to a lead over Martin and stretched it. Anderson actually made progress on Martin but came up just short at the checkered.

Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Rod Edwards 22 (2*) 2. Eric Mason 29 (1*) 3. Tony Norem B1st (5*) 4. Joe Beaver 53 (4*) 5. Curtis Thorson 91 (3) 6. Jerry Crabb 12x (8) 7. Rod Richards 5 (7) 8. Stacy Alexander 126 (6) 9. Jason Pardock 55J (11) 10. Mark Detrick 12D (9) 11. Jim Alexander Jr. 14A (10)

Edwards led flag to flag, while his followers were racing hard. Norem couldn't quite get around Mason on the final lap.

Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Josh Higday 24 (1*) 2. Jesse Giannetto D1 (5*) 3. Rodney Turner 69 (3*) 4. Jamie Farrell 54 (4*) 5. Chris Martinez 7m (2) 6. Doug Wilson 33w (6) 7. Brett Mather 12 (7) 8. Jake Peters 57x (9) 9. John Anderson 7A (8) 10. Gary Moyer 8m (10)

This may have been the toughest heat. With a track hard to pass on, Higday led the distance, while a blanket could have been thrown over fourth through ninth position as the competitors were dicing it out but not getting much passing done.

C feature (started): 1. J. Anderson (2) 2. Hinck (4) / 3. Short (7) 4. Detrick (3) 5. J. Alexander (5) 6. Moyer (6) 7. Pyatt (1) DNS - M. Alexander, Breazeale

Anderson smoked this field.

B feature (started): 1. C. Thorson (4) 2. Houseman (2) 3. Ball (1) 4. T. Thorson (3) / 5. Golik (12) 6. Peters (15) 7. Wilson (6) 8. Lenz (7) 9. Crabb (5) 10. S. Alexander (14) 11. Mather (13) 12. Zoutte (9) 13. Lance (8) 14. J. Anderson (19) 15. Hinck (18) 16. Waddell (16) 17. Pardock (17) 18. Richards (12) 19. Doty (11) DNS - Martinez

An entertaining race through lapped traffic. C. Thorson broke the six year old ten lap track record of Terry Alexander with a time of 3:33.5 seconds. Golik and Peters were the cars on the move, but they fell just short of their goal of making the A. Pardock, Richards and Doty exited early.

A feature (started): 1. Ergenbright (1) 2. Martin (6) 3. Heimbaugh (4) 4. Higday (5) 5. R. Anderson (11) 6. Mason (3) 7. T. Alexander (14) 8. T. Thorson (20) 9. Farrell (16) 10. Deaver (13) 11. Houseman (18) 12. Ball (19) 13. C. Thorson (17) 14. Beaver (15) 15. Edwards (9) 16. Norem (2) 17. Hesmer (10) 18. Kearney (7) 19. Giannetto (8) 20. Turner (12)

The initial start saw hard flips by Giannetto and Turner. Kearney also suffered enough damage to retire. No one was hurt. Ergenbright led Norem on the start. Hesmer exited while running fifth on lap six. Norem was still running second with three laps to go when something soured in the motor ending his night. Ergenbright could not be headed in his first career Knoxville win.

August 3, 2001
Callaway Raceways
Fulton, MO

An early shower made for a fast track and a lot of excitement tonight at Callaway Raceways in Fulton, MO.  Randy Martin would return tonight after a 2 race absence to try and play the spoiler in the hotly contested points race.  Tracy Nichols would start the evening with a mere 8 point lead over Mike Trent with only one point's race remaining.  Randy Combs would be on hand to try and see if he could make it 2 feature wins in a row and climb back into the series points race.

HEAT 1:  1. 1C Randy Combs (3),  2. 3P Rusty Potter (6),  3. 19 Tracy Nichols (5),  4. 21 Tim Doogs (8),  5. 69P Mike Pearson (4),  6. 2 Lowe Cannel (7),  7. 52 Larry Dudley (2),  8. 17 George Schell (1)
Schell would flip on lap 2 bringing out the red flag.  Pearson would pull in at the drop of the red while leading.  Dudley would assume the lead only to have to pull off before the green would drop with mechanical problems.  Combs would inherit the lead and go on to the win.

HEAT 2:  1. 2D Mitchell Moore (1),  2. 11X Don Cooper (2),  3. 14 Randy Martin (5),  4. 75 Jesse Hockett (3),  5. 14C Mike Trent (7),  6. 85 Tommy Mikels (4),  7. 24 Lanny Carpenter (7),  DNS 86 Wayne Barnes
Moore would lead flag to flag, Martin would move up to challenge Cooper on the last lap but Cooper would hold him off.

A FEATURE:  1. 1C Combs (1),  2. 14 Martin (6),  3. 21 Doogs (7),  4. 14C Trent (10),  5. 3P Potter (3),  6. 85 Mikels (12),  7. 52 Dudley (14),  8. 2D Moore (2),  9. 24 Carpenter (13),  10. 2 Cannel (11),  12. 75 Hockett (8),  13. 86 Barnes (16),  14. 17 Schell (15),  15. 19 Nichols (5),  16. 11X Cooper (4)

Cooper and Hockett would tangle on lap one ending Cooper's evening.  On the restart Combs would jump out to the lead followed by Martin.  Martin assumed the lead on lap 2 and would pull out to a 5 car length advantage.  On lap 5 Doogs and Nichols would tangle and the series points leader, Nichols, would flip the #19 sprinter.  Doogs would be able to continue but Nichols night would be over.  Martin would continue to lead the rest of the way and it looked like he would win his 7th WOW feature of the year.  Entering turns 1 and 2 on the last lap the race leader, Martin, would encounter a lap car, Martin would miss the lap car by inches but would hand the lead over to Combs.  Combs would beat Martin back to the checkers by a car length or two to capture his 2nd feature win of the year.  The hard charger of the evening would be the #52 of Larry Dudley, moving up 7 spots to finish 7th this evening.

The combination of Trent finishing 4th and Nichols finishing 15th would put Trent back atop the series points lead once again.  Trent holds a 16 point lead over second place Nichols and a 24 point lead over Combs with only one point race remaining.  The last WOW race will be Sept. 1st at Capital Speedway in Holts Summit, MO.

Double X Speedway
California, MO

It's hot and late so all you get tonight is highlights.

Heat winners were Randy and J. Kinder.

A Feature:  This was a good one, they would line up "straight-up" tonight, which would put Randy and Kinder on the front row.  Randy would get the early jump and it appearred that he was gonna run away with it.  Lanny Carpenter had other thoughts though, moving up from second row outside to take the second place spot.  Randy would run low and Carpenter high and on lap 10 they would start encountering lap traffic.  Randy would get held up by a slower car and Carpenter would take the lead on the high side.  After clearing the lap car, Randy would would work on reeling Carpenter back in.  Carpenter would lead for 5 laps before Randy could get back around him.  Carpenter would keep Randy in his sight but would never get close enough to challenge again.  The top 5 were:  1. Randy  2. Carpenter,  3. Kinder,  4. Bill Porter,  5. Kevin Whitesides

CALLAWAY RACEWAYS
FULTON, MO

With temperatures exceeding the century mark it wasn't a surprise that the racing surface would be hard and slick tonight.  Midway through the first heat the sprints would start to blow off the top layer of moist dirt and reveal the hard, black track below.  Tracy Nichols would come into this evening's race leading the points race by 6 points over Mike Trent.  It would be interesting to see if Nichols could hold on to the lead as we have had three different points leaders in the last three races heading into tonight's event.

HEAT 1:  1. 19 Tracy Nichols (3),  2. 3 Dean Adams (7),  3. 11X Don Cooper (5),  4. 85 Tommy Mikels (1),  5. 91 Richard Kriesel (4),  6. 86 Wayne Barnes (6),  7. 24 Lanny Carpenter.
Nichols would jump out to the early lead and win going away.  Mikels, Cooper, and Adams would put on a good race for 2nd with Adams prevailing.

HEAT 2:  1. 14C Mike Trent (1),  2. 77 Jesse Hockett (4),  3. Brian Brown (5),  4. 21 Tim Doogs (3),  5. 69P Mike Pearson (6),  6. 17 George Schell (2)
Trent would lead flag to flag in this one.  Brown would loop the 3L machine while running second but was able to save it and finish 3rd.

HEAT 3:  1. 2 Lowe Cannel (2),  2. 4T Randy Martin (4),  3. 75 Randy Combs (6),  4. 3P Rusty Potter (5),  5. 5 Steve Dean (3),  6. 8 Lance Kobusch (1)
This would be a very entertaining heat as Cannel and Martin would duel wheel to wheel till the checkers with Cannel coming out on top.

A FEATURE:  1. 3L Brown (8),  2. 14C Trent (2),  3. 4T Martin (6),  4. 3P Potter (12),  5. 19 Nichols (1),  6. 3 Adams (4),  7. 2 Cannel (3),  8. 75 Combs (9),  9. 11X Cooper (7),  10. 21 Doogs (11),  11. 85 Mikels (10),  12. 77 Hockett (5),  13. 69P Pearson (14),  14. 24 Carpenter (19),  15. 8 Kobusch (18),  16. 17 Schell (17),  17. 5 Dean (15),  18. 86 Barnes (16),  19. 91 Kriesel (13)

Well the stage was set, #1 and #2 in points starting on the front row of the main event, Trent would take the early advantage heading into turn one.  Martin would come around the topside of 3 and 4 to lead the pack to the start-finish line.  Martin would pull away from the pack slightly over the course of the next 3 or 4 laps while Brown would work his way up to second.  On lap 5 Brown would get real sideways in turns 1 and 2 and lose several position, but, the #86 would spin bringing out the yellow.  This would position Brown right behind the leader, Martin, on the restart.  Three laps later Brown would get around Martin for the lead, the two would battle back and forth before Brown starting pulling away.  The battle was for second place from that point on as Trent would pull up to challenge Martin.  Martin and Trent would swap the position back and forth until the last lap as Trent was finally able to clear Martin and win the drag race to the finish line.  Trent's second place finish would give him enough points to tie Nichols for the series lead.  Hard charger of the evening was the 3P of Rusty Potter.  Potter would advance 8 spots from his 12th place starting position to come home 4th, barely nipping Nichols at the finish.

JULY 15, 2001
DOUBLE X SPPEDWAY
CALIFORNIA, MO

What a beautiful night for racing, mild temperature made it very pleasant tonight at Double X Speedway.  Randy was back in the #14 sprinter after taking last Sunday night off.  It was clear from the onset that he was ready to run.

HEAT 1:  1. 6R Tim Rowden (3),  2. 33 Jimmy Turpin (2),  3. 8 Lance Kobusch (1),  4. 20 Chris Landwehr (6),  5. 98C Rob Rimel (5),  6. 8UP Mike Berger (4),  7. 5 Steve Dean DNS
What a great race, the #33 of Jim Turpin took off to the early lead and looked like he was gonna claim his first sprint car win.  Tim Rowden would spoil that however, moving up to pass Turpin with 2 to go.

HEAT 2:  1. 14 Randy Martin (2),  2. 91 Richard Kriesel (4),  3. 47 Kevin Whitesides (1),  4. 24 Lanny Carpenter (3),  5. 15 Bill Porter (6),   6. 88 J. Kinder (5)
Randy ran off with this one from the drop of the green.  Kriesel, Whitesides, and Carpenter would duel for the 2nd spot.

A FEATURE:  1. 14 Martin (6),  2. 47 Whitesides (2),  3. 20 Landwehr (7),  4. 24 Carpenter (8),  5. 98C Rimel (9),  6. 91 Kriesel (4),  7. 15 Porter (10),  8. 88 Kinder (12),  9. 9 Kobusch (1),  10. 6R Rowden (5),  11. 8Up Berger (9),  12. 33 Turpin (3)

The outside line was the place to be in the lineup tonight, as by lap three Whitesides was out front followed by Kriesel and Martin.  Turpin and Kinder would tangle on lap six bringing out a yellow, on the ensuing restart Martin would pass both Kriesel and Whitesides and begin to motor away.  Randy would stretch his lead to over half a lap on the rest of the field.  The real battle for for 2nd as Whitesides, Landwehr and Carpenter would battle wheel to wheel for the spot as the laps wound down.  The hard charger of the evening was the #14 of Randy Martin, moving up 5 positions to claim his 13th A Main of the year.

A couple of drivers earned a mention tonight, the first being the #20 Diamond Pet Foods machine of Chris Landwehr.  Chris' program seems to be coming together as they have been consistently moving forward as this year has progressed.  Chris showed patience, staying out of trouble on a slick track, and was less than car length from finishing second tonight.  The other driver would be Lance Kobusch.  Tonight was Lance's first night ever in a sprint car and while his 9th place finish might not look that impressive he done a good job behind the wheel.  Kobusch would run in the top 5 for half of the A Main before fading in the later part of the race.  Lance has previous race experience behind the wheel of a modified.

JULY 5, 2001
SCOTLAND COUNTY SPEEDWAY
MEMPHIS, MO

Tonight would be stop number nine for the Winged Outlaw Warriors, as 24 sprinters would invade the fairgrounds of Scotland County.  Series Point Leader, Randy Combs, would be trying to extend his points lead tonight but not in his familiar red number 1C.  Combs would be piloting the 75 sprinter tonight; a car previously piloted by Jesse Hockett and David Lawver.  The action would start early tonight as Mark Knapp would make contact with the retaining fence on the back stretch put his car on it's side, sidelining him for the evening.

HEAT 1:  1. 14 Randy Martin (2),  2. 78 John Schultz (6),  3. 126 Stacey Alexander (3),  4. 3L Brian Brown (7),  5. 9G Charlie Gilpin (1),  6. 44 Phil Heavelow (5),  7. 75 Randy Combs (4),  8. 16 Mark Knapp DNS
Martin would take the lead from the start, Schultz would move up to challenge until a yellow came out for Combs who cut down a rear tire.  On the restart Martin would pull away for the heat win.  Gilpin would claim the fifth and final transfer spot.

HEAT 2:  1. 19 Tracy Nichols (1),  2. 5 Steve Dean (2),  3. 3P Rusty Potter (7),  4. 5J Larry Ball Jr. (6),  5. 85 Tommy Mikels (5),  6. 2 Lowe Cannel (8),  7. 12D Mark Detrick (3),  8. 17 George Schell (3)

B FEATURE:  1. 75 Combs (3),  2. 44 Heavelow (1),  3. 2 Cannel (2),  4. 33 McVay (6),  5. 12D Detrick (5),  6. 6 Alexander (8),  7. 32 Langford (3),  8. 17 Schell (7),  9. 16 Knapp DNS

Hockett (9),  6. 5J Ball Jr. (11),  7. 19 Nichols (2),  8. 3P Potter (8),  9. 75 Combs (16),  10. 2D Moore (6),  11. 5 Dean (5),  12. 44 Heavelow (17),  13. 9 Nehring (12),  14. 9G Gilpin (13),  15. 126 Alexander (7),  16. 33 McVay (19),  17. 99 Davies (15),  18. 85 Mikels (14),  19. 2 Cannel (18),  20. 12D Detrick (20)

Martin would take the lead from the pole position.  Martin would continue to increase the margin between himself and Trent until lap 7 as they started encountering lap traffic.  Trent and Schultz would close the gap between themselves and Martin.  As they entered the heavy lap traffic Martin still had the advantage but Trent had closed the gap to a fell car lengths.  Martin would skillfully maneuver his way through the traffic to establish a comfortable lead once again and take the feature win.  Brown, Hockett, and Ball Jr. would all make a charge to the front but the hard charger of the evening would be Series Points Leader Randy Combs.  Combs transferred from the B and started in the 16th spot and would pick up 7 positions to finish 9th.  Friday night the WOW will be at Callaway Raceways in Fulton, MO.

A FEATURE: 1. 14 Martin (3),  2. 5 Dean (1),  3. 24 Carpenter (2),  4. 2 Cannel (6),  5. 88 Kinder (9),  6. 20 Landwehr (5),  7. 6R Rowden (11),  8. 47 Whitesides (7),  9. 98C Rimel (10),  11. 15 Porter (8),  12. 9 Crank (8)

This one would be red flagged on the first lap as the #9 of Crank would get over the back of #15, Porter, and flip down the back stretch.  Both cars where sidelined for the rest of the evening.  On the restart Dean would move into the lead and Martin would move into second.  The two would battle back and forth with Dean holding the advantage through lap 11 of the 25 lap main event.  On lap 12 Randy would get the inside position coming into turn 1, the pair would bump wheels and Randy would emerge the leader coming off turn two.  Dean would hang tough with Martin for a couple of laps until Randy would get a groove working and start to stretch his lead.  Carpenter would work his way around the top to run down Dean and eventually pass him.  The two would swap the second position back and forth for several laps with Dean holding on to the spot.  The 4th and 5th positions held by Cannel and Kinder were hotly contested.  Both running hard, Kinder would pull along side Cannel but was unable to pass him.  The track was slick but provided for great racing at every position.  The win moves Randy's streak to 4 and his 10th win of the year.

STATE FAIR MOTOR SPEEDWAY
SEDALIA, MO

A large crowd on hand tonight at State Fair Motor Speedway to watch the World of Outlaws and the Winged Outlaw Warriors put on a show.  The car count was great and the weather even better as 26 WOW teams unloaded and competed tonight.  Randy Martin was back this evening, as well as Brian Brown, new series leader Randy Combs, and last Saturday's feature winner Bryan Grimes.

HEAT 1:  21H Terry Hinck (2),  2. 14C Mike Trent (4),  3. 1C Randy Combs (6),  4. 6 Bryan Grimes (1),  5. 1A Christie Passmore (7),  6. 33W Doug Wilson (3),  7. 85 Tommy Mikels (5),  8. 6R Tim Rowden (9),  9. 17 George Schell (8)
Terry Hinck had a strong run in this heat.  Trent would challenge but was unable to overtake the hard charging Hinck.  Passmore would claim the 5th and final transfer spot.

HEAT 2:  1. 2D Mitchell Moore (2),  2. 77 Jesse Hockett (6),  3. 86S Eric Schrock (9),  4. 91 Richard Kriesel (1),  5. 19 Tracy Nichols (7),  6. 38 Todd Frisbie (8),  7. 24 Lanny Carpenter (4),  8. 9 Tony Crank (3),  9. 21 Tim Doogs (5)
A tangle on the start would leave Doogs on his side and on the trailer the rest of the evening.  Moore jumped out to a huge lead and was never threatened the entire event.  Hockett and Schrock would move up front the rear and Nichols would claim the last transfer spot.

HEAT 3:  1. 3L Brian Brown (1),  2. 4T Randy Martin (4), 3. 2 Lowe Cannel (2),  4. 86 Steve Gennenten (5),  5. 11X Donnie Cooper (3),  6. 26 Rick Smith (7),  7. 33 Jon Corbin (8),  8. 3P Rusty Potter (6)
This one was all Brown, starting from the pole Brown jumped out to the early lead.  Martin and Cannel would fight tooth and nail for the second spot.  Martin would get around Cannel but would not be able to run down Brown.

B FEATURE:  1. 33W Wilson (1),  2. 38 Frisbie (2),  3. 85 Mikels (4),  4. 26 Smith (3),  5. 24 Carpenter (5),  6. 6R Rowden (7),  7. 17 Schell (6),  8. 33 Corbin DNS, 9. 9 Crank DNS, 10. 21 Doogs DNS,  11. 3P Potter DNS
This one would line out from the drop of the green with the top 5 going to the A.

A FEATURE:  1. 4T Martin (6),  2. 3L Brown (3),  3. 14C Trent (4),  4. 86S Schrock (8),  5. 6 Grimes (10),  6. 1C Combs (7),  7. 33W Wilson (16),  8. 19 Nichols (14),  9. 1A Passmore (13),  10. 2D Moore (2),  11. 2 Cannel (9),  12. 11X Cooper (15),  13. 24 Carpenter (20),  14. 85 Mikels (18),  15. 26 Smith (19),  16. 91 Kriesel (11),  17. 21H Hinck (1),  18. 86 Gennenten (12),  19. 77 Hockett (5),  20. 38 Frisbie (17)

The green would drop and Moore would assume the lead, but with no more than 1 lap in the books the red flag would fall.  The #38 of Todd Frisbie would smack the front wall and tumble hard down the front stretch.  The restart would see Moore in the lead followed by Trent, Hinck, Martin and Schrock.  Martin would move up to third on lap 2 and begin to challenge Trent for the number 2 spot.  On lap 7 the leader, Moore, would spin in turns 1 and 2 and bring out the yellow.  On the restart Martin would pass Trent going into turn 1.  Trent and Brown would battle for second as the lead pack started to encounter lap traffic.  On lap 17 the final yellow would fall, as Hockett would lose a motor in turn 1, setting up a 3-lap dash to the end.  Martin would get a great jump on the restart and Brown would get under Trent in turn 1.  Martin was too strong as Brown would have to settle for second as the checkered flag waved.  Hard charger of the evening would the #33 of Doug Wilson, moving up 9 spots to finish 7th on the evening after transferring from the B Feature.

SMRA Sprints

Oh what a night!  Team 14 had the orange sprinter hooked up and hauling and Randy was standing on the loud pedal.

HEAT 1:  1. 14 Randy Martin (2),  2. 24 Lanny Carpenter (3),  3. 47 Kevin Whitesides (4),  4. 15 Bill Porter (6),  5. 6R Tim Rowden (5),  6. 9 Tony Crank (1)
This one was over quickly, Randy started on the front row outside and quickly motored his way to the lead and never looked back.

HEAT 2:  1. 65 Bryan Grimes (1),  2. 91 Richard Kriesel (2),  3. 98C Rob Rimel (3),  4. 88 J. Kinder (6),  5. 5 Steve Dean (4),  6. 33 Jim Turpin (5)
Grimes took the lead from the pole and while it looks like everyone pretty much finished where they started that isn't the case.  From second on back the racing was fast and furious with Kriesel coming home second and the 3, 4, and 5 slots swapping each lap.

A FEATURE:  1. 14 Martin (5),  2. 5 Dean (10),  3. 88 Kinder (8),  4. 47 Whitesides (1),  5. 15 Porter (7),  6. 91 Kriesel (4),  7. 33 Turpin (12),  8. 9 Crank (11),  9. 6R Rowden (9),  10. 65 Grimes (6),  11. 98C Rimel (2),  12. 24 Carpenter (3)

This one was hairy from the start, before lap 1 was completed Whitesides and Rimel got together on the front stretch.  Rimel would hit the front wall and collect Carpenter, neither was able to continue.  On the restart Whitesides would take the lead, but by lap 3 Randy would overtake Whitesides and motor away.  Randy had stretched his lead to over a half lap when on lap 14 a yellow flew for Grimes.  Grimes pulled into the pits and never returned.  The yellow is what Steve Dean needed, Dean was sitting in 6th at the time.  Dean took advantage of the situation and would work the topside to move up to the second spot.  Kinder and Whitesides would battle it out for the 3rd spot with Kinder coming out on top.  This was Randy's second featuer win at Double X and 7th overall for the year.  Hard charger tonight was Steve Dean, coming from the 10 spot to finish 2nd.

This heat was a tough one, with Kearney leading the distance from the pole. Giannetto did a good job of moving up four spots, while Hesmer and Houseman were mired in the back.

Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Joe Beaver 53 (1*) 2. Doug Wilson 33w (2*) 3. Larry Ball Jr. 5J (3*) 4. Brett Mather 12 (6*) 5. Curtis Thorson 91 (8) 6. Dan Thornburg 57T (4) 7. Chris Martinez 7m (5) 8. Rod Richards 5 (7) 9. Roger Short 3E (9)

The lone caution came out for a spin by Short on lap two. Beaver led flag to flag, while Wilson and Ball battled for second.

Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Ed Ergenbright 11 (1*) 2. Tim St. Arnold 7s (2*) 3. Ryan Anderson 71R (3*) 4. Dave Middleswart 4 (7*) 5. John Anderson 7A (6) 6. Eric Mason 29 (8) 7. Alan Zoutte 33 (9) 8. Mitchell Alexander 6 (5) 9. Randy Martin 14 (4)

Martin stopped on lap two with a drive shaft problem. He also had a broken yoke and bell housing. St. Arnold and R. Anderson exchanged positions several times before St. Arnold took over second on the white flag lap.

B feature (started): 1. Hesmer (3) 2. T. Thorson (2) 3. Martin (20) 4. C. Thorson (1) / 5. Lenz (6) 6. J. Anderson (4) 7. Houseman (14) 8. Heimbaugh (5) 9. Mason (7) 10. Crabb (11) 11. Richards (15) 12. T. Alexander (8) 13. Zoutte (10) 14. Thornburg (9) 15. Detrick (13) 16. Pardock (21) 17. Martinez (12) 18. Edwards (17) 19. M. Alexander (16) 20. Waddell (18) 21. Short (19)

Hesmer stormed to the front, while Martin shredded through the field from row ten. He was up to sixth by lap six, when Short flipped in turn one. Short was uninjured. Martin used the restart to get around J. Anderson and Lenz and into a transfer spot.

A feature (started): 1. Kearney (5) 2. Golik (1) 3. Martin (19) 4. St. Arnold (10) 5. Norem (6) 6. Higday (4) 7. Turner (7) 8. Mather (14) 9. Wilson (9) 10. T. Thorson (18) 11. Ball (13) 12. Hesmer (17) 13. Deaver (16) 14. Giannetto (8) 15. C. Thorson (20) 16. S. Alexander (12) 17. Ergenbright (2) 18. Beaver (3) 19. R. Anderson (15) 20. Middleswart (11)

Before a lap could be complete, Middleswart flipped in turn four. On the restart, Golik shot out to the lead with Kearney in tow. The two left the rest behind as Martin started cruising towards the top ten. A lap nine yellow for Beaver who was suffering from driveline problems, also claimed R. Anderson who had a flat. Kearney captured the lead on the restart. The race went non-stop until lap 16, when Giannetto spun while running in twelfth place. Before the yellow, St. Arnold and Martin were exchanging third place regularly. Martin ended up being the hard-charger in the 20 lap contest, while strong runs were turned in by all, especially the top five cars.

Double X Speedway
SMRA Sprints

A hot and muggy night at Double X this evening as the SMRA sprints unloaded to do battle, and a battle is what it was.  For the fourth week in a row a different driver stepped forward to claim his slice of the pie, while others where left to pick up the pieces left on the speedway.

HEAT 1:
1. 98C Rob Rimel (2),  2. 91 Richard Kriesel (1),  3. 88 J. Kinder (4),  4. 5 Steve Dean (3),  5. 33 Jim Turpin (5),  6. 65 Bryan Grimes DNS
Rimel and Kriesel battled early with Rimel taking the advantage, leaving Kriesel and Kinder to fight it out for second.  Grimes was again plagued with motor troubles and was unable to start.

HEAT 2:
1. 14 Randy Martin (3),  2. 24 Lanny Carpenter (5),  3. 47 Kevin Whitesides (6),  4. 9 Tony Crank (1),  5. 6R Tim Rowden (7),  6. 20 Chris Landwehr (2),  7. 4 Randy Combs (4)
This one was all Martin, stretching his lead to a full straight away by the end of the heat.  Carpenter and Whitesides would work their way from the back to finish 2nd and 3rd respectfully.  Combs would lose a motor and be done for the evening.

A FEATURE:
1. 88 Kinder (1),  2. 14 Martin (6),  3. 47 Whitesides,  4. 24 Carpenter (4),  5. 5 Steve Dean,  6. 9 Crank (7)  7. 6R Rowden (8),  8. 98C Rimel (5),  9. 20 Landwehr (9),  10. 91 Kriesel (3),  11. 33 Turpin (10),  12. 65 Grimes (12),  13.  4 Combs DNS

Kinder was "walking the dog" in this one.  From lap 1 Kinder took the advantage and was never really seriously challenged the rest of the way.  The real battle took place from second on back.  Martin would battle his way through the field to claim second, but not without a struggle.  Whitesides and Martin would have an 11-lap duel, which saw Whitesides on the bottom and Martin on the top.  Whitesides would hold off the hard charging Carpenter to come home third.  The red flag would fly on lap 19 as the #91 of Kriesel and the #33 of Turpin would make contact, leading to a nasty flip down the front straight away.  Kriesel would flip end over end and eventually land on the 33 car of Turpin, both drivers would emerge unharmed but their cars were heavily damaged.  This would set up a 6-lap dash for the win but, as Whitesides and Martin fought for the number 2 spot Kinder stretched out his lead.  Kinder ran a smart race and maneuvered his way through lap traffic like a seasoned veteran to claim his first win of the year and his second victory overall at Double X.

JUNE 9, 2001
KNOXVILLE RACEWAY
KNOXVILLE, IA

Heat one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Tony Norem B1st (1*) 2. Curtis Thorson 91 (6*) 3. Mike Houseman Y5 (3*) 4. Dave Hesmer 1 (8*) 5. Tim St. Arnold 7s (7) 6. Ed Ergenbright 11 (5) 7. Keith Hutton 49 (9) 8. Chris Martinez 7m (4) 9. Matt Harms 53H (10) 10. Rod Richards 5 (2)

A few cars were in to tune up for next week's 360 Nationals, creating a format of five heats and a 24 car feature. Richards bowed out on lap five while leading this heat, and Norem inherited the point. C. Thorson was a strong second.

Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Tom Lenz 8L (2*) 2. Randy Martin 14 (5*) 3. Tim Deaver 34 (4*) 4. Stacey Alexander 126 (3) 5. Randi Miller 2D (10*) 6. John Anderson 7A (1) 7. Brett Golik 5G (6) 8. Frankie Heimbaugh 6x (7) 9. Rob Edwards 22 (9) 10. Mitchell Alexander 6 (8)

Lenz held off Martin by a very slim margin. Miller made a charge from the back row good enough to earn an A feature starting spot. He made the trek from Rapid City, SD to prep for next week.

Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Rodney Turner 69 (4*) 2. Jake Peters 57x (9*) 3. Don Cooper 11x (1*) 4. Doug Wilson 33w (7*) 5. Ryan Anderson 71R (5) 6. Eric Mason 29 (2) 7. Dave Middleswart 4 (8) 8. Doran Doty 99x (3) 9. Wayne Pennington 71 (10) 10. Alan Zoutte 33 (6)

It was a tough break for Doty, who was scheduled inside two, but had the car pop out of gear on the initial start. He had to restart in the rear. Wagner, SD's Peters made a charge from the back row to come home second.

Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Terry Thorson 9 (3*) 2. John Kearney 86 (8*) 3. Brett Mather 12 (4*) 4. Larry Ball, Jr. 5J (5*) 5. Terry Alexander 77 (1) 6. Jesse Hockett 77H (10) 7. Tracy Nichols 19 (6) 8. Ryan Menninga 54 (7) 9. Roger Short 3E (9) 10. Dan Thornburg 57T (2)

Thornburg exited on lap two. Short was a victim of the two spin rule, one on lap four and another on the restart. Kearney was making his first 2001 appearance and was impressive, moving up six positions.

Heat five (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Jesse Giannetto D1 (2*) 2. Josh Higday 24 (3*) 3. Mike Trent 14c (4*) 4. Joe Beaver 53 (6*) 5. Jerry Crabb 12x (8) 6. Rusty Potter 3P (9) 7. Mike Waddell 2 (5) 8. Mark Detrick 12D (7) 9. Steve Breazeale 57 (1)

Breazeale took a nasty spill in one and two after wheel banging with Giannetto on the initial green. After a restart, Giannetto left the field behind, while Trent and Beaver had a nice race going on for third.

C feature (started): 1. Doty (2) 2. Heimbaugh (1) 3. Menninga (3) / 4. Detrick (4) 5. Pennington (6) 6. Harms (5) 7. Thornburg (10) 8. Zoutte (9) 9. Edwards (7) 10. M. Alexander (8) 11. Jim Nelson 3E

Nelson took over for Short in the 3E. Doty left the field behind, while Heimbaugh and Menninga followed him into the B.

B feature (started): 1. S. Alexander (1) 2. St. Arnold (2) 3. R. Anderson (6) 4. Doty (16) / 5. Golik (11) 6. Potter (3) 7. Mason (9) 8. Hockett (4) 9. Middleswart (12) 10. Hutton (7) 11. Heimbaugh (17) 12. Nichols (14) 13. Martinez (15) 14. Menninga (18) 15. Waddell (13) 16. T. Alexander (5) 17. Ergenbright (8) 18. J. Anderson (10) DNS - Crabb

As S. Alexander took the lead, Ergenbright and T. Alexander came together breaking the front end of Ergenbright's car sending him into the track. J. Anderson was unable to avoid the incident and rammed into the front chute guardrail. Both were uninjured. Menninga exited as a result of the two spin rule. One on lap four, another on lap nine. Waddell and Martinez exited at the same time. Doty used the cautions to his advantage and stormed from the back for the final transfer into the A.

A feature (started): 1. C. Thorson (3) 2. Peters (6) 3. Kearney (5) 4. T. Thorson (2) 5. Norem (9) 6. Lenz (1) 7. Martin (7) 8. Wilson (14) 9. Higday (10) 10. Miller (13) 11. Trent (16) 12. Houseman (17) 13. Ball (20) 14. Doty (24) 15. Deaver (12) 16. Cooper (18) 17. R. Anderson (22) 18. Beaver (19) 19. Turner (4) 20. Mather (15) 21. Hesmer (11) 22. St. Arnold (23) 23. S. Alexander (21) 24. Giannetto (8)

This could be considered the best race at Knoxville to date in 2001. Giannetto flipped on the initial green, but that was the last stop this race would have despite early exites by S. Alexander, St. Arnold and Hesmer. T. Thorson broke out to an early lead over his brother. It looked like it would be a brother 1-2 finish until Peters and Kearney started a charge. Why Peters doesn't race at Knoxville more often is anybody's guess, but he appears to have the place figured out. At any time, you could have thrown a blanket over the top five finishers as they swapped positions several times. One who didn't was C. Thorson who inched under his brother with a few laps remaining and took his first career Knoxville win. None other than Doty received the hard-charger award after going the alphabet route tonight.

STATE FAIR MOTOR SPEEDWAY; SEDALIA, MO
WOW SPRINTS

Another beautiful night for racing as 30 Winged Outlaw Warriors showed up at the Missouri State Fair Grounds to put on a show.  And what a show it was, the entire evening was full of surprises, from the heat races to the drop of the checkered flag over the A main.  Last year's defending champ Brian Brown was on hand tonight, making his first WOW appearance of the year, wheeling a borrowed ride from Team Hockett.  Brown's night would end early with mechanical woes, the pole sitter would not be able to start the A, two of the top 5 in points would not make the A, and, another pair from the top 5 was unable to finish it.

HEAT 1:  1. 6R Steve Richards (2),  2. 14 Randy Martin (7),  3. 51J Ryan Jamison (1),  4. 1A Christie Passmore (5),  5. 33W Doug Wilson (4),  6. 21 Tim Doogs (3),  7. 85 Tommy Mikels (8),  8. 33 Tim McVay (10),  9. 86S Eric Schrock (9),  10. 26 Rick Smith (6)
Richards lead flag to flag, Martin did a good job of working his way through traffic to finish second.  Top 5 transferred to the A.

HEAT 2:  1. 75 Jesse Hockett (1),  2. 14C Mike Trent (3),  3. 91 Richard Kriesel (4),  4. 3P Rusty Potter (7),  5. 21H Terry Hinck (10), 6. 69P Mike Pearson (6),  7. 2 Lowe Cannel (9),  8. 5 Curt Krugen (8),  9. 17 George Schell (2),  10. 6 Bryan Grimes (5)
This one was all Hockett as he had them covered from the on set. Grimes would retire early due to rocker arm failure.   Potter and Hinck both worked there way up to claim the last two transfer spots.

HEAT 3:  1. 2D Mitchell Moore (1),  2. 5H Bobby Hawks (9),  3. 19 Tracy Nichols (2),  4. 1C Randy Combs (4),  5. 4T Mike Trent (6),  6. 11X Don Cooper (5),  7. 38 Todd Frisbie (8),  8. 51 Kirk Dankenbring (7),  9. 77 Brian Brown (3),  10. 44 Phil Heavelow (10)
Once again the pole set the pace for the entire race as Moore motored away from the rest of the field.  Hawks moved up 7 positions to come home second.

B FEATURE:  1. 21 Doogs (1),  2. 86S Schrock (8),  3. 51 Dankenbring (9),  4. 33 McVay (7),  5. 85 Mikels (4),  6. 44 Heavelow (12),  7. 11X Cooper (3),  8. 2 Cannel (5),  9. 38 Frisbie (6),  10. 26 Smith (13),  11. 69P Pearson (2),  12. 77 Brown (10),  13. 17 Schell (11),  14. 5 Krugen DNS, 15. 6 Grimes DNS
This was a yellow plagued event that saw only 6 finishing.  Doogs was out front and stayed there as the cars behind him fought for a transfer spot.  Cannel, 2nd in series points, was caught up in an accident that saw him put his car on its side.  Frisbie, 5th in points, would cut down a tire and would be forced to retire.  Top 5 would advance to the A.

A FEATURE:  1. 14C Trent (3),  2. 19 Nichols (7),  3. 2D Moore (1),  4. 33W Wilson (11),  5. 1A Passmore (10),  6. 51J Jamison (5),  7. 86S Schrock (15),  8. 1C Combs (12),  9. 91 Kriesel (8),  10. 21H Hinck (14),  11. 85 Mikels (20),  12. 4T Trent (13),  13. 51 Dankenbring (18),  14. 21 Doogs (16),  15. 3P Potter (9),  16. 5H Hawks (6),  17. 44 Heavelow (19),  18. 14 Martin (4),  19.  33 McVay (17),  20. 75 Hockett (2)
This was an interesting show, Steve Richards was slated to start on the pole but was injured in the 360 2-barrell main and was unable to start.  This moved Moore in the 2D up to the point.  A yellow stopped the first lap as Hockett spun, moving him to the tail of the field.  The stage was set as Moore and Martin assumed the front row for the restart.  Martin jumped out to the early lead, increasing the distance between him and Moore lap after lap.  The battle for second was a good one as Moore, Trent, Hawks, and Nichols for battle lap after lap.  Lap 8 saw another yellow and bunched the field back up, Martin maintaining the point followed by Trent, Hawks, Moore, and Nichols.  Lap 13 was the undoing of Martin as he clipped a spinning lap car in turns 1 and 2 that flatten his left front tire sending him to the pits.  Hawks would assume the lead, followed by Trent, Moore, Nichols, and Jamison.  Hawks night would end on lap 16 as the leader ran out of fuel, handing the lead to the 14C of Trent.  Nichols had moved up to second and would briefly battle Trent for the lead but to no avail.  Mike Trent would hold on to claim his first WOW feature win of 2001.

WOW Sprints

Standing in the pits early this evening made you wonder if we were going to get a show in or not.  Light sprinkles and dark clouds hanging around the track did not discourage the 28 sprints that showed up, 27 of them trying to put an end to the 3 win streak of series point leader Randy Martin.  The excessive rain from the days before made the 3/8 mile oval tough to tame this evening.  By feature time the bottom seemed to be the smoothes way around the track but the top appeared to be the fastest.  Complete results are as follows:

HEAT 1:  1. 6 Bryan Grimes (1),  2. 78 John Schulz (2),  3. 2 Lowe Cannel (6),  4. 14 Randy Martin (7),  5. 21H Terry Hinck (8),  6. 85 Tommy Mikels (3),  7. 86S Eric Schrock (4),  8. 14C Mike Trent (5), 9. 3B Robert Black
This one was all Grimes, leading flag to flag as the top 5 advanced to the A feature.

HEAT 2:  1. 33 Tim McVay (1),  2. 51J Ryan Jamison (4),  3. 19 Tracy Nichols (5),  4. 38 Todd Frisbie (9),  5. 21 Tim Doogs (7) 6. 51 Kirk Dankenbring (3),  7. 5 Steve Dean (6),  8. 16 Mark Knapp (8),  9. 17 George Schell (2).
Once again the pole setter took the advantage over the field.  Hard charges by Frisbie and Doogs would earn them transfer positions.

HEAT 3:  1. 77 Jesse Hockett (2),  2. 1C Randy Combs (1),  3. 4T Mike Trent (4),  4. 33W Doug Wilson (7),  5. 20 Chris Landwehr (6),  6. 3P Rusty Potter (5),  7. 11X Don Cooper (9),  8. 91 Richard Kriesel (8),  9. 9 Tony Crank (10),  10. TV29 David Pyatt (3)
The #77 of Jesse Hockett would earn his first ever 360-sprint win tonight in this 3rd heat event.

B FEATURE:  1. 85 Mikels (1),  2. 86S Schrock (4),  3. 51 Dankenbring (2),  4. 3P Potter (3),  5. 5 Dean (5),  6. 91 Kriesel (9),  7. 14C Trent (7),  8. 17 Schell (11),  9. 9 Crank (12),  10. 11X Cooper (6),  11. 16 Knapp (8),  12. TV29 Pyatt (13),  13. 3B Black (10)
This was an exciting race as only the top 5 would transfer to the A main.  Mikels and Schrock checked out on the field and the real race was for 3rd on back.  A last lap incident would slow Trent, who was running in the 5th and final transfer spot, and allowed Dean to claim the spot.

A FEATURE:  1. 14 Martin (10),  2. 6 Grimes (1),  3. 77 Hockett (3),  4. 2 Cannel (7),  5. 51J Jamison (5),  6. Frisbie (11),  7. Dean (20),  8. 86S Schrock (17),  9. 21 Doogs (14),  10. 33 McVay (2),  11. 4T Trent (9),  12. 1C Combs (6),  13. 19 Nichols (8),  14. 3P Potter (19),  15. 33W Wilson (12),  16. 51 Dankenbring (18),  17. 78 Schulz (4),  18. 20 Landwehr (15),  19. 21H Hinck (13),  20. 85 Mikels (16)

There would be no denying Martin tonight.  Starting 10th on the field he moved his way up to 4th by the end of lap 1and when the yellow fell on lap 4 he was in 2nd place. On the restart Grimes was pacing the field, followed by Martin, Hockett, Jamison, and McVay.  Grimes would get a great jump on the restart as Martin and Hockett fought for position.  By lap 7 Martin had passed Grimes only to have it nullified by another yellow flag.  Lap 8 saw Martin passing Grimes for the lead and from that point on the race would be for second.  Martin holds on to win his 4th feature win of the year.  Hard chargers Frisbie, Dean, and Schrock put on quite a show moving up to post top 10 finishes.  Most impressive was Steve Dean, moving up 13 positions from his 20th starting spot to come home 7th.   Mid pack battles were fast and furious all night long with positions swapping each lap.

KNOXVILLE RACEWAY
360  SPRINTS

We started 10th in the feature after finishing 2nd in our heat, once again victims of the "passing point-invert" system. We were finally starting to move forward in the late part of the race. We were sitting in fifth on the final lap and was getting ready to pass Hesmer for 4th down the back chute when the car just quit. We coasted around to the front straight but was unable to cross the finish line so we finished last of the cars that were still running. It's not a motor problem, we think it is associated with the mag. Guess it's one of those "good thing/bad thing" deals, bad that we dropped all the way back but good that it wasn't the motor.  Here are the complete 360 results:

Heat one (started, *qualified for A): 1. Ryan Anderson 71R (2*) 2. John Anderson 7A (1*) 3. Dave Hesmer 1 (5*) 4. Curtis Thorson 91 (3) 5. Tony Norem B1st (6) 6. Stacy Alexander 126 (7) 7. Brett Mather 12 (8) 8. Joe Beaver 53 (10) 9. Tim St. Arnold 7s (11) 10. Adam Mason 49 (4) 11. Mike Waddell 2 (9)

Beaver got the black flag on the initial green. Once the race settled in, R. Anderson took off ahead of a good battle in which J. Anderson held off Hesmer.

Heat two (started, *qualified for A): 1. Rodney Turner 69 (2*) 2. Josh Higday 24 (9*) 3. Tracy Nichols 19 (1*) 4. Dave Middleswart 4 (6*) 5. Ed Ergenbright 11 (10*) 6. Don Cooper 11x (7) 7. Frankie Heimbaugh 6x (8) 8. Dan Thornburg (5) 9. Mitchell Alexander 6 (3) 10. Alan Zoutte 33 (4)

M. Alexander brought out a caution on the first lap with a spin. On the restart, Zoutte tangled with the turn two wall. He was done for the night. Thornburg elected to start at the rear. Turner struggled behind lapped traffic, but an impressive surge by Higday fell just short.

Heat three (started, *qualified for A): 1. Steve Breazeale 57 (2*) 2. Doran Doty 99x (3*) 3. Terry Thorson 9 (6*) 4. Ryan Menninga 54 (1) 5. Jesse Giannetto D1 (8*) 6. Tim Deaver 34 (4) 7. Rod Richards 5 (7) 8. Jason Pardock 55J (10) 9. Terry Alexander 77 (5) 10. Tom Lenz 8L (9)

Lenz exited early. Breazeale looked strong as the high side was still the fast way around the track. Menninga, a rookie to the sprints is looking more impressive every week. Unfortunately, he would have to qualify through the B. Giannetto's charge was good enough for an A starting spot.

Heat four (started, *qualified for A): 1. Larry Ball Jr. 5J (1*) 2. Randy Martin (2*) 3. Mike Trent 10 (4*) 4. Mike Houseman Y5 (8*) 5. Doug Wilson 33w (5) 6. Eric Mason 29 (6) 7. Brett Golik 5G (9) 8. Chris Martinez 7m (3) 9. Mark Detrick 12D (10) 10. Woody Woodward 11A (7)

Other than a strong showing by Houseman, this race turned into a single file event.

C feature (started): 1. T. Alexander (4) 2. Woodward (6) / 3. Lenz (7) 4. A. Mason (5) 5. Martinez (1) 6. Detrick (2) 7. Waddell (8) 8. M. Alexander (3) DNS - Stefka

Alexander rode the high side around Martinez to take the lead and never look back.

B feature (started): 1. Norem (3) 2. C. Thorson (1) 3. S. Alexander (5) 4. Golik (9) / 5. Wilson (4) 6. Deaver (7) 7. St. Arnold (16) 8. Mather (10) 9. Menninga (2) 10. Pardock (15) 11. Cooper (6) 12. Woodward (18) 13. T. Alexander (17) 14. Heimbaugh (11) 15. Thornburg (13) 16. E. Mason (8) 17. Richards (14) 18. Beaver (12)

E. Mason hit the wall hard on lap two, but was able to continue from the rear. Beaver took a nasty series of flips down the backstretch on lap four, but was uninjured. Norem cruised the high side to victory, while Golik nipped Wilson in a great battle by mere inches for the final transfer.

A feature (started): 1. R. Anderson (5) 2. Doty (7) 3. Breazeale (3) 4. T. Thorson (1) 5. Hesmer (9) 6. Turner (4) 7. Houseman (11) 8. Higday (6) 9. J. Anderson (8) 10. Nichols (13) 11. Giannetto (16) 12. S. Alexander (17) 13. Trent (12) 14. C. Thorson (18) 15. Golik (19) 16. Ergenbright (15) 17. Martin (10) 18. Ball (2) 19. Middleswart (14) 20. Norem DNS

Norem had a fuel line problem and did not start. He was running third in points. Middleswart flipped in one and two on lap four and was uninjured. Ball led using the high side to his advantage. R. Anderson was gaining on him on the low side when Ball hit the wall at the halfway point. Damage was enough to send him pitside. R. Anderson using the low groove assumed the lead and was never headed for his first career Knoxville win with a motor recently purchased from Larry Pinegar.

DOUBLE X SPEEDWAY
SMRA LIMITED SPRINTS

Well tonight was double feature night at Double X, last week's A main was rained out and rescheduled for tonight.  Seventeen sprints were there tonight to compete in the regular show.

A FEATURE, May 6th make up:
1. 98C Rob Rimel (2),  2. 5 Steve Dean (1),  3. 14 Randy Martin (6),  4. 24 Lanny Carpenter (3),  5. 38 Todd Frisbie (7)

Rimel led this from start to finish, putting together 20 perfect laps for his first ever win.  The real battle was for 2nd place between Steve Dean and Randy.  Randy could reel him in but just couldn't get around him.  We experienced all kinds of trouble in this race, wrong gear, the timing slipped, the car overheated, etc.  It wasn't pretty.  The team had to thrash to get the car ready for our first heat of the regular show.

HEAT 1:
1. 14 Randy Martin (6),  2. 5 Steve Dean (3),  3. 20 Chris Landwehr (1),  4. 9 Tony Crank (4),  5. 98C Rob Rimel (5),  6. 33 Cyle (2)
Randy spilt the 20 & 9 cars heading into turn 1 and never looked back.  The car was running better and didn't overheat, but the plugs looked fouled.  Once again the hood came off and the team worked to get it ready for the A main.

HEAT 2:
1. 24 Lanny Carpenter (2),  2. 4 Randy Combs (4),  3. 38 Todd Frisbie (1),  4. 47 Kevin Whitesides (3),  5. 91 Richard Kriesel (5), 6. 23 ? (6)
This one was hotly contested as the top 3 battled for position with Carpenter taking home the win.

HEAT 3:
1. 6R Tim Rowden (2),  2. 88 J. Kinder (3),  3.  15 Bill Porter (4),  4. 65 Bryan Grimes (5),  5. 16 Mark Knapp (1)
Another great race, Rowden and Kinder battled the entire heat, Rowden came home the winner of this one.  Pole sitter Mark Knapp would flip his #16 machine during the course of this heat.

A FEATURE:
1. 14 Martin (4),  2. 4 Combs (2),  3. 24 Carpenter (5),  4. 5 Dean (1)
The top four are the only positions that I am sure about, as I find out the rest I will update.

This was an entertaining feature to say the least.  Pole sitter Steve Dean jumps out to the early lead followed by Randy.  These two would battle relentlessly for the top spot.  Dean was strong and held Randy off lap after lap.  Randy was working the top and bottom of the track searching for a line that would work for him.  At about lap 18 or 19 Randy would finally get under Dean and take over the top spot, a lap later Dean would spin and would have to restart at the tail.  Carpenter and Combs were all over each other battling for the number 2 spot the entire race.  Todd Frisbie was running the high line and worked his way up to the third position and was challenging for 2nd late in the race when his brake rotor broke ending his run for the evening.  Frisbie looked fast and may have been able to challenge for the lead as several yellows kept the field bunched up.  This was Randy's first win of the year in the limited, 5th overall, and put him atop of the points series.

SMRA Sprints

The feature was rained out; we'll be running double features next weekend.  Randy looked real good in hot laps and his heat.  Randy won his heat and was looking forward to his feature run where he'd be starting 3rd row outside.  I don't have all of the racing info as the storm moved in quick and everyone scrambled to get outta there, but here's what I can recall off the top of my head:

HEAT 1:  1.  Richard Kriesel, 2. Lanny Carpenter, 3. Steve Dean, 4. Todd Frisbie
One heck of battle for the heat win, Kriesel and Carpenter fought the whole way with Kriesel coming out on top.  Look for this rookie in the winner's circle sometime this year!

HEAT 2: 1. Randy Martin, 2. Bryan Grimes, 3. Robbie Rimel, 4. Tony Crank, I think.
Randy started on the front row outside and lead flag to flag.  Rimel looked stout until his car developed a fuel problem.

Look for double features next week at Double X!

WOW Sprints

Another beautiful night for racing as 25 of Missouri's best showed up to do battle on the small 3/8-mile oval.  Racing action was fast and furious all night long with an A main that kept everyone on the edge of their seats till the very finish!

HEAT 1:  1.  1C Randy Combs (6),  2. 5 Steve Dean (1),  3. 3P Rusty Potter (7),  4. 17 George Schell (2),  5. 11X Don Cooper (5),  6. 5C Corey Simonson (8),  7. 16 Mark Knapp (4),  8. 77 Jesse Hockett (3)
Combs worked his way through traffic masterfully as he pulled off the heat win.  Good battles throughout the field for position.  Hockett had to pull off when he stripped the rear end gears on lap 3.  Top 5 transferred directly to the A.

HEAT 2: 1. 33 Tim McVey (1),  2. 19 Tracy Nichols (2),  3. 14 Randy Martin (8),  4. 6 Bryan Grimes (4),  5. 38 Todd Frisbie (6),  6. 24 Lanny Carpenter (3),  7. 21 Tim Doogs (7),  8. 51 Kirk Dankenbring (5)
A tough heat and a lot of racing for position.  McVey leads flag to flag but was challenged hard by Nichols.  Martin worked his way up from his 8th starting position but was unable to run down the leaders.

HEAT 3: 1. 14C Mike Trent (1),  2. 3 Dean Adams (4),  3. 78 John Schultz (2),  4. 86S Eric Schrock (3),  5. 85 Tommy Mikels (7),  6. 2 Lowe Cannel (6),  7. 4T Mike Trent (5),  8. 6R Tim Rowden (8),  9. 9 Tony Crank (9)
Another exciting heat event, the 14C of Trent lead the whole way but all remaining positions were hotly contested.  Schrock looked strong early but seemed to fade a little towards the end.

B FEATURE:  1. 5C Simonson (1),  2. 2 Cannel (3),  3. 4T Trent (5),  4. 21 Doogs (6),  5. 51 Dankenbring (6),  6. 6R Rowden (7),  7. 77 Hockett (10),  8. 24 Carpenter (2),  9. 9 Crank (8),  10. 16 Knapp (9)
Simonson looked strong in the B, leading flag to flag.  The race was hot and heavy for the 5th and final transfer spot to the A with Dankenbring holding on to claim the 5th and final spot.

A FEATURE:  1. 14 Martin (8),  2. 1C Combs (1),  3. 78 Schultz (9),  4. 5 Dean (4),  5. 33 McVey (2),  6. 19 Nichols (5),  7. 21 Doogs (19),  8. 3 Adams (6),  9. 14C Trent (3),  10. 5C Simonson (16),  11. 38 Frisbie (14),  12. 2 Cannel (17),  13. 3P Potter (7),  14. 6 Grimes (11),  15. 86S Schrock (12),  16. 17 Schell (10),  17. 51 Dankenbring (20),  18. 4T Trent (18),  19. 11X Cooper (13),  20. 85 Mikels (15)

This one was a barn burner folks, the top two in points battled this one out lap after lap.  The 1C of Randy Combs took the advantage from the drop of the green, series points leader Randy Martin worked his way up to the 2nd place spot by lap 3 and the race was on.  Combs and Martin battled wheel to wheel lap after lap with Combs keeping the advantage.  Combs was keeping his car low and tight to the bottom as Martin was running the top early.  Combs was getting an incredible bite off the bottom and maintained the lead lap after lap.  Numerous yellows would keep the field bunched up and would ultimately cost Combs his first feature win of the year.  After a restart on lap 17 Martin would challenge Combs hard for the lead through 1 and 2 with Martin almost pulling along side of Combs through the corner.  It was a drag race down the back chute, through 3 and 4 and back down the front chute.  Combs would enter turn 1 low, through the center of the corner his car gave up just a little and went up the track, this is all Martin would need.  Martin would dive low and get position on Combs, they exited the corner side by side with Martin on the inside, this gave the series points leader position heading into turns 3 and 4.  Martin takes the lead for good coming out of turn 4 on lap 18 and edges out Combs for his 3rd WOW win of the season and retains his points lead.

An incredible battle was waged for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th positions.  Schultz, Dean, McVey, and Nichols swapped positions several times, putting on a great wheel to wheel show for the fans.  Doogs, Adams, and the 14C of Trent added to the excitement.  Every position was hard fought all the way up to the checkered flag.

Hard charger of the evening was the 21 sprinter of Tim Doogs.  Doogs quietly picked his way through field from his 19th starting position to come home 7th, an impressive showing, picking off 12 positions along the way.

The Winged Outlaw Warriors will have the next two weeks off.  Racing resumes Saturday, May 26th at Capital Speedway in Holts Summit, MO for the Gary Scott Memorial.

11:41 PM:  MARTIN WINS!  MARTIN WINS!  Randy takes the lead at the line to win the 360 A main!

11:24 PM:  Pushing off for the A now

11:03 PM:  Both Trent and Wilson transfer from the B, Heavelow is ok.

10:40 PM:  Randy will start 2nd row outside in the A, just ahead of Norem.  Tracy will start 6th row outside, Cooper 7th row inside.  Heavelow dumps his ride at the start of B feature.  Trent and Wilson are battling for 1st and 2nd, Trent with the upperhand.

another note:  there are 43 of the 360's and 40 of the 410's, what a field.

9:20 PM:  Just got the local heat finishes, Randy finished 3rd in the first heat behind the Y5 of Mike Houseman and the 5J of Larry Ball Jr.  Doug Wilson finished 5th.  In the second heat Don Cooper finished 3rd, In the third heat Tracy Nichols finished 5th.  Tony Norem won the 4th heat and Mike Trent came home 4th.  Be back with feature line-ups in bit.  Randy should get a decent starting spot considering he started 9th in the heat and finished 3rd, Knoxville takes the top 16 in passing points and locks them into the A.

9:10 PM: Heats for the 360's are over, I think, keeping losing connection to the cell phone.  Did find out that Joey Saladana set quick time, followed by Brian Palus.

7:04 PM  360 are running hot laps, then 410 qualifying.  Randy will start in the first heat last row, so much for luck.  Will get more heat information after they race.

3:44 PM:  Team 14 is at the track, it's sunny and 80 degress but windy, gusts in the 15 to 20 mph range.

Winged Outlaw Warriors

A beautiful evening for racing, except for a few light sprinkles early, as 24 sprinters showed up tonight at Fulton, MO.  Racing action tonight would contain 3 heat races, a B Feature, as well as the main event.  Randy here to see if he could extent his point lead as well as pick up his second feature win of the season.  The table was set for an exciting night of winged sprint action.

HEAT 1:
1. 2D Mitchell Moore (1),  2. 3P Rusty Potter (4),  3. 3 Dean Adams (7),  4. 5 Steve Dean (6),  5. 4T Mike Trent (8),  6.  24 Lanny Carpenter (2),  7. 16 Mark Knapp (3),  8. 86 Wayne Barnes DNS
Moore takes the lead at the drop of the green but was pushed hard by Potter.  Potter stayed close to make it interesting by Moore held on for the win.  Last lap pass by Adams coming out of turn 4 would improve his feature starting position.

HEAT 2
1. 14 Randy Martin (5),  2. 19 Tracy Nichols (4),  3. 44 Phil Heavelow (3),  4. 77 Jesse Hockett (6),  5. 38 Todd Frisbie (8),  6. 8UP Jeff Gibbs (2),  7. 26 Rick Smith (1),  8. 6R Tim Rowden (7)
Heavelow jumps out to the early lead but would succumb to Martin on lap 2.  Heavelow would spin on lap 3, bringing out the yellow, but would charge back to a 3rd place finish.

HEAT 3
1. 2 Lowe Cannel (1),  2. 14C Mike Trent (3),  3. 91 Richard Kriesel (4),  4. 11X Don Cooper (8),  5. 1C Randy Combs (7),  6. 85 Tommy Mikels (5),  7. TV29 Pryatt (6), 8. George Schell (2)
This one took some time to get started, but was well worth the wait.  Pole sitter Cannel took the lead from the drop of the green and led flag to flag.  It might sound like Cannel had a easy go of it, quite the opposite, the 14C of Trent was hot after him making for a very exciting heat.  Lots of passing back and forth throughout the heat race.

B FEATURE
1. 24 Carpenter (1),  2. 8UP Gibbs (2),  3. 6R Rowden (4),  4. TV29 Pryatt (9),  5. 26 Smith (5),  6. 16 Knapp (4),  7. 17 Schell (8),  8. 86 Barnes (7),  9. 85 Mikels (3)
Top 5 would transfer to the A Feature.  The track was starting to slick off and the event was plagued with several yellows.  Carpenter led flag to flag.

A FEATURE
1. 14 Martin (2),  2. 3 Adams (7),  3. 2 Cannel (3), 4. 14C Trent (6),  5. 91 Kriesel (9),  6. 4T Trent (13),  7. 77 Hockett (11),  8. 38 Frisbie (14),  9. 1C Combs (15),  10. 19 Nichols (5),  11. 3P Potter (4),  12. 11X Cooper (12),  13. 24 Carpenter (16),  14. 44 Heavelow (8),  15. 6R Rowden (18), 16. 26 Smith (20), 17. TV29 Pratt (19), 18. 2D Moore (1),  19. 5 Dean (10),  20. 8UP Gibbs (17)

Moore leads the group into turn one when he loses it and collects Nichols and Carpenter in the process, sending all to the back.  This would move Cannel up to the point for the restart.  At the drop of the green Cannel would jump out to the lead followed by Martin.  Martin would lead the first lap by half a car but would be passed back by Cannel going into one.  Cannel and Martin would deal wheel to wheel for the next couple of laps with Martin finally assuming the point on lap four.  Martin would stretch his lead out to a few car lengths.  The race was for second from this point on, and what a race it was.  Adams and Cannel would battle the rest of the way with the 14C of Trent joining in to really make it interesting.  Adams would eventually pass Cannel for 2nd place.  There was racing and passing through out the field, people moving up and then slipping back and moving up again.  The 4T of Mike Trent was the hard charger of the evening, moving up 7 spots from his 13th starting spot to finish 6th.

The #2 of Lowe Cannel looked real good tonight, while only a sophomore in the WOW, he looked like a seasoned veteran.  Cannel ran strong all night long, don't be surprised when you see him in the winner's circle this year.  The 91 car of Richard Kriesel was impressive, finishing 5th in only his 3rd start ever in a 360 sprint.  To make things even more impressive was the fact that he was running a steel headed motor!  Don Cooper in the 11X sprinter continues to improve and impress.  Cooper finished 12th but was inside the top 10 early.

The most impressive of the evening had to be the Joseph Lanes Homes #38 of Todd Frisbie.  While his 7th place finish may make you wonder why, I'll tell you.  Frisbie was struggling a little a first on the slick track and lost several positions early, falling as low as 17th.  Everyone was battling for the low position, Frisbie showed caution and patience and waited for the race to come to him.  At the mid-way point of the event Todd was sitting in the 17th position when he made his move.  While everyone was battling around the bottom he moved to the top, he was the only one on the top!  There was nothing up there at all, the modifieds had pushed what little cushion that was there over the top and there was a hole at the top of turn 3.  Frisbie skillfully maneuvered his way around the top and looked to be the fastest car on the track at the end.  Frisbie picked up 10 spots in the last 10 laps to come home 7th.

RAIN OUT!  Rain date is set for next friday the 27th.

April 13, 2001
Danny Young Memorial
State Fair Grounds, Des Moines, IA

9:47 PM - The feature just ended.  It started out looking pretty good for Randy, on the drop of the green he was moving forward, he had moved up to 4th or 5th but all was for not as the yellow came out.  A complete restart was called and Randy didn't get as good a jump this time around.  Randy ran well though, finishing either 4th or 5th,  Tessa didn't know for sure what the final call was, they were headed to the pay window and then home so I will have an update in the morning.  Randy was the top "local" finisher, Todd was close behind but no one was for sure where he finished, Ryan and Don finished further back.  Terry McCarl, reigning Knoxville 410 Track Champion won, Don Droud Jr. was leading but spun out after tangling with a lapper.  That's it for tonight, look for an update tomorrow.  Glad you came by and checked!

9:01 PM - Just getting ready to push off for the A, come to find out, Ryan Jamison is there tonight and will be starting on the pole.  Don Droud Jr. will start 2nd row outside, Todd will start 4th row inside, Randy 5th row outside, and Don Cooper will start 10th row outside.  Be back after the feature is over!

8:05 PM - After the draw for the feature line-up Randy starts in the 10th starting spot, Todd in the 7th.  We will have one more update after the Feature, which will be shortly as the whole program has to be done by 10:30 and the sprints are the first feature to run!

7:44 PM - Made a gear change for the heat race, wasn't the right thing to do but still finished well.  Started in the number 6 hole in the heat and finished second.  Todd started 5th in the 1st heat and worked his way up to 2nd place. good run for Todd.  Don Cooper started 6th in the 4th heat and was only able to manage a 5th place finish.  As soon as I get the feature line, the top three have to re-draw for starting line up, I will post.

7:10 PM - Just spoke to the gang at Des Moines, Randy is starting in the 3rd Heat, last row.  Wally said the car looked good and was fast in the Hot Laps.  Other locals that made it are: Todd Frisbie and Don Cooper.  In all there are about 30 sprinters including heavy hitters like Don Droud Jr., Terry McCarl, and Dennis Moore Jr.  I'll be back with an update after the heat races!

APRIL 7, 2001
CAPITAL SPEEDWAY; HOLTS SUMMIT, MO

It turned out to be a long, long day.  It was worth the wait though as 27 sprinters showed up  at Capital Speedway and put on a great show.  It was getting close to 2 am before they pushed off for the main event tonight, several yellows and one lenghty red for the modifieds pushed the program into the early morning.  Never the less, those that stayed got to see a great feature race for the sprinters.  Complete results are as follows:

HEAT 1:  1. 14C Mike Trent (1),  2. 33w Doug Wilson (3),   3. 4T Mike Trent (2),   4. 21H Terry Hinck (7),  5. 71 Wayne Pennington (5),   6. 17 George Schell (4),  7. 11 Doug Rose  DNS
The 14C of Mike Trent made quick work of the feild, leading flag to flag.

HEAT 2:  1. 19 Tracy Nichols (4)  2. 51J Ryan Jamison (7)  3. 2  Lowe Cannel (1)  4. 2D Mitchell Moore (2)  5. 21 Tim Doogs (6)  6. 85 Tommy Mikels (5)  7. 91 Richard Kreisel (3)
Heat 2 was a good one, the 19 of Tracy Nichols took the win but was chased hard by the 51J of Ryan Jamison.  Jamison came from the back row of the heat to make it interested but came up a little short.

HEAT 3:  1. 6  Bryan Grimes (7)  2. 44 Phil Heavelow (3)  3. 3P Rusty Potter (1)  4. 11X Don Cooper (5)  5. 38 Todd Frisbie (6)  6. 51 Kirk Dankenbring (2)  7. 6R Tim Rowden (4)
Brian Grimes charges hard from the back row to win impressively.

HEAT 4:  1. 14 Randy Martin (2),   2. 3 Dean Adams (3),   3. 1C Randy Combs (6)  4. 77 Jesse Hockett (5),  5. 16 Mark Knapf (1),  6. 86S Eric Schrock (4)
This one was all Martin, but, the 77 of Hockett made an early charge at the drop of the green to take over the 2nd spot.  Hockett ran well but slipped on the last lap to the number 4 spot.

B FEATURE:  1. 21 Tim Doogs (1),  2. 85 Tommy Mikels (4),  3. 86S Eric Schrock (8),  4. 38 Todd Frisbie (2),  5. 91 Richard Kreisel (5),  6. 51  Kirk Dankenbring (9),  7. 71 Wayne Pennington (6),  8. 16 Mark Knapf (3),  9. 6R Tim Rowden (7),  10. 11 Doug Rose DNS  11.  17 George Schell DNS
Top 4 transfer to the A.

A FEATURE:  1. 14  Randy Martin (4),  2. 14C Mike Trent (1),  3. 6 Bryan Grimes (3),  4. 51J Ryan Jamison (6),  5. 19 Tracy Nichols (2),  6. 77 Jesse Hockett (16),  7. 33W Doug Wilson (5),  8. 2 Lowe Cannel (10),  9. 44 Phil Heavelow (7),  10. 1C Randy Combs (12),  11. 2D Mitchell Moore (14),  12. 4T Mike Trent (9),  13. 21H Terry Hinck (13),  14. 85 Tommy Mikels (20),  15. 21 Tim Doogs (17),  16. 11X Don Cooper (15),  17. 3P Rusty Potter (11),  18. 38 Todd Frisbie (18),  19. 86S Eric Schrock (19),  20. 3 Dean Adams (8)

This was an exciting main event, Randy Martin takes the lead exiting turn 2 on lap one.  Randy is fast and starts pulling away.  By lap 5 the 14C of Mike Trent is starting to reel Martin in and on lap 9 passes Martin for the lead.  Trent is running the low groove while Martin is zinging around the track in the high groove.  Trent and Martin continue to battle, Martin with the advantage through 1 and 2, Trent the advantage through 3 and 4.  Martin is searching for a better line and finally finds the one that works.  On lap 14 Martin passes Trent for the lead only to have it negated by a yellow flag.  On the ensuing restart Martin passes Trent entering turn 1 and resumes the lead, Trent would stay close but wouldn't really challenge Martin again for the lead.  Randy goes on to take his first feature win of the year as well as the series points lead.  The hardcharger of the evening would be the 77 sprinter of Jesse Hockett, Jesse started in the 16th slot but managed to move his way up to finish 6th.

MARCH 23, 2001
State Fair Speedway; Sedalia, MO

At the beginning of the day it looked like we would be in store for a great night of racing, 31 sprinters, sunshine, and warm temperatures looked promising.  As the evening wore on mother nature had a change of mind.  In a matter of minutes the clouds rolled in, temperatures dropped and the wind howled.  In the end a light shower would bring the A Feature to a halt 4 laps into the main event.
